The purification and amino acid composition of human uterus collagens, rheumatoid-arthritis-nodule collagen and ox tendon collagen.

چکیده
Collagens and gelatins were isolated from human post-menopausal uterus, puerperal (post-partum) uterus, rheumatoid-arthritis-nodule and ox tendon. Different means of purifying collagen were studied and a method was devised that enables highly purified collagen to be obtained, even from the uterus. This method involves the use of a number of aqueous and organic extractants as well as digestion with elastase to eliminate elastin. The purity of the collagen preparations was assessed and they were used to study the amino acid composition of collagen. The amino acid compositions of all the collagens studied were similar to those of human bone and tendon collagen, but certain small differences were noted and are discussed. The soluble collagen extracted from some of the tissues was also studied.

Research Article: Isolation, characterization and biocompatibility evaluation of collagen from Thunnus tonggol skin
Acid-soluble collagen could be isolated from fish skin using acetic acid. In recent years, much attention has been paid to collagen from marine sources, mainly arising from the fact that there is no risk of contagious diseases. Moreover, by processing the fish, significant amounts of waste materials are produced which can be considered as a substitute for these collagen sources. Thunnus tonggol...
متن کاملIsolation and Evaluation of Collagen from the Fish (Thunnus Tonggol) Skin: A Biological Material for Medical Tissue Engineering
Introduction: Collagen bears many applications in pharmacy and medicine, health and cosmetic products as well as food industry. In recent years, much attention has been paid to separation of collagen from marine organisms arising from the fact that its use in the diet is not restricted and triggers no risk of contagious diseases as well as religious restrictions. Moreover, fish collagen is uniq...
متن کاملEvidence for the chemical modification of collagen in rheumatoid arthritis.
In the past the insoluble collagen of connective tissue has been examined largely as its corresponding derived gelatin. Gelatins prepared from normal and rheumatoid collagens were demonstrated to be slightly different in their primary structures (Steven, 1964a). The so-called "insoluble collagen" has now been solubilized by the ox-amylase technique first described by Nishihara (1963) for steer-...
متن کاملExtraction and Purification of Collagen from the Jellyfish Catostylus mosaicus of the Persian Gulf
Background: Collagen is a protein that constitutes a major component of connective tissue and has many applications in the medical and non-medical fields. The increase in the world population and the need for proteins have led to a special focus on seafood. Furthermore, jellyfish is a rich and renewable source of collagen. Therefore, many researchers have shown interest in collagen extraction f...
متن کاملExpression of a wide range of extracellular matrix molecules in the tendon and trochlea of the human superior oblique muscle.
PURPOSE To show that the molecular composition of the extracellular matrix of the trochlea and its associated tendon may explain the link between some cases of acquired Brown syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis. METHODS One trochlea and its tendon from 11 dissecting-room cadavers were fixed in methanol, cryosectioned, and immunolabeled with a panel of monoclonal antibodies against types I, II, ...
